Mary Catherine Scott

Mary Catherine “Mary Kay” Scott, 85, of N. Warren, PA. died

Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice

Home after a brief illness. She was born May 8, 1929 in Butler,

PA. She was the daughter of John F. and Martha Park Wilson.

She was a longtime Warren area resident and a 1947 graduate of

Butler High School. She earned her associates degree in nursing

from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed

as a registered nurse at Warren General Hospital and Warren

State Hospital where she retired from after 20 years. She was a

member of North Warren Presbyterian Church, enjoyed traveling,

playing cards with lady friends, Friday Night Fish Fries,

snowmobiling, bowling, square dancing and the Sheffield Senior

Center.

She is survived by 2 children – Merle “Mike J.” Scott and wife,

Wendy of Russell, PA., Nancy Deming and husband, John

“Auggie” of Clarendon, PA., 1 Brother – James D. Wilson and

wife, Ruth of Valencia, PA., 4 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandson,

several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her

husband of 46 years, Russell “Bud” M. Scott whom she married

May 5, 1951 in Valencia, PA. who died November 11, 1997.

Reverend Monsignor John J. Lucas

The Reverend Monsignor John J. Lucas, 75, died Wednesday, August 27th at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.

Msgr. Lucas was born on February 13, 1939 in Grassflat, Pennsylvania, the son of Michael and Veronica (Kuzilla) Lucas, Sr. He is survived by 2 Siblings – Michael D. Lucas, Jr. and his wife, Marlene, of Erie, Pennsylvania, Maureen Lucas of Girard, Pennsylvania, a sister-in-law Shirley Lucas of Niagara Falls, New York, – as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Folmar, a brother, Andrew Lucas, and an infant sister, Agnes Lucas.

After attending elementary school in Grassflat and high school in Cooper Township, Pennsylvania, he entered St. Mark Seminary in Erie and attended Gannon College (1957-1959). He received his major seminary formation at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Erie on May 27, 1965 in St. Peter Cathedral by Bishop Frederick Hall.

Msgr. Lucas began his priestly ministry as a teacher at Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, while serving as weekend assistant at Holy Family Parish, where he remained until 1967. In 1967, he was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Thomas Parish in Corry (1967-1980). He was appointed Pastor of St. Hippolyte Parish in Guys Mills in 1980 and subsequently served as pastor at Our Lady Queen of the Americas in Conneaut Lake (1985-1998) and Holy Redeemer Parish in Warren (1998-2012). He was parochial administrator of St. Peter Parish, Conneautville in 1997. Msgr. Lucas served the Diocese as Dean of the Meadville Deanery for four years and of the Warren Deanery for more than a decade. He was also a member of the priests senate.

Msgr. Lucas was an active member and spiritual director of Cursillo in Crawford County, chaplain to the Knights of Columbus in Corry and a Fourth Degree Knight himself.

On October 27, 1996, Msgr. Lucas was made a Chaplain of His Holiness by Bishop Donald Trautman, with the attendant title of Monsignor.

He retired from active ministry in 2012, but continued to assist with parish Masses throughout the Erie region.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, September 1 at Holy Redeemer Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren, Pennsylvania from 2:00 – 8:00 pm, with the celebration of Evening Prayer beginning at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church at 10:00 am Tuesday with The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, Bishop of Erie, as the main celebrant. Burial will be at St. Gregory Roman Catholic Cemetery in North East, Pennsylvania.

Lillian C.M. Laird Ibbs

Lillian C.M. Laird Ibbs, 50, of Warren, PA. died peacefully in her

sleep, Sunday, August 24, 2014 at her residence. She was born

October 10, 1963 in Jamestown, N.Y. She was the daughter of the

late Ellis S. Laird and JoAnn Swiderski. She was a graduate of

Jamestown Community College Nursing School where she

earned a Associate degree in nursing. She was employed as a

Registered Nurse at W.C.A. Hospital retiring after many years

with much dedicated work. She truly enjoyed her vocation as a

nurse. She had resided in Warren, PA. most of her life.

Lillian loved being at the beach, especially when she was

vacationing in Jamaica. She enjoyed traveling with her husband,

making others laugh and bring a smile to all those in the room.

Her grandchildren were the center of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Ibbs

Jon F. Wiedmaier

Jon F. Wiedmaier, 76, of Bennett, CO. and formerly of Warren, PA., died Monday, August 18, 2014 at his residence surrounded by family after a brief illness. He was born August 12, 1938 in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Perry and Jesse Miller Wiedmaier. Jon was a 1957 graduate of Warren High School where he was an All Star and State competitor in Track and Field, and played Baseball.

Jon was a resident of Warren, PA., until 1974 when he moved to Colorado. While in Warren, he was employed as a Draftsman with the former Pittsburgh Demoine Steel Company, Dorcon and Struthers Wells Corporation until his retirement, when he started, and owned/operated JFW Mining, working until his death. He also owned and operated his home, C J Ranch. He was a member of Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club, was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed camping and boating. He loved all sports, especially motorcycle racing, shooting trap with his brothers and friends, racing stock cars at Stateline and Eriez Speedways. He is remembered as an energetic man, loving life and was very friendly.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Caroline Lanoue whom he married in 1983 in Santa Fe, N.M., 3 children – Vicki Wiedmaier Tomica of Warren, PA., Jay Wiedmaier and wife, Stacey of Strassburg, CO., Tina Seeker and husband, Carl of Warren, PA., 3 Stepchildren – Melissa Miller of Worcester, MA., Ronald Miller of Thornton, CO., Sarah Ryan of Bennett, CO., 1 Brother – Lee Wiedmaier of West Minister, CO., 12 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren , several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Siblings – George “Bud” Wiedmaier, Betty Wiedmaier Fitzpatrick, Perry Wiedmaier and Neal Wiedmaier.

Kathleen Shea

Kathleen Shea, 41, of Warren, PA. and formerly of Los Angeles, CA. died Wednesday evening, August 14, 2014 at U.P.M.C. Hamot, Erie, PA. after a 20 year battle with Anorexia. She was born May 23, 1973 in Warren, PA. She is the daughter of John “Toby” and Susan Orbanic Shea of Warren, PA. She was a 1991 graduate of Warren Area High School and earned a Associates Degree at Santa Monica Community College. Kathy had resided in Los Angeles for 19 years where she was employed in retail stores, restaurants and active modeling. She had modeled in the Victoria Secret catalog, was an extra in the movie, “Love is a gun and Hail Caesar.” She loved being with children, especially her nieces and nephews. She had a tremendous sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Jennifer Wortman and husband, David of Warren, PA., her brother, Tobin Shea of Los Angeles, CA, 2 Nephews – John and Luke Wortman, 3 Nieces – Megan, Grace and Isabel Wortman, 1 Uncle – Robert Orbanic and wife, Pat all of Warren, PA., 3 Cousins – Martha Jane Davey, Bridget Natale and husband, Matt, Kelly Orbanic.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents – John and Bertha Fill Orbanic, paternal grandparents – William and Eleanor Wycoff Shea, 2 Aunts – Eleanor “Billie” Hartwig and her husband, Ed and Georgianna Shea.

There will be no visitation hours observed but friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Holy Redeemer R.C. Anne Louise Hyatt

Anne Louise Hyatt, 92, of Warren, PA. passed peacefully after

declining health on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the John and

Orpha Blair Hospice Home. She was born in Warren, PA. on

January 10, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Karl and Ethel

Marie Jones Krantz.

Anne was a 1939 graduate of Warren High School and attended

Grove City College and Edinboro University, obtaining her

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, while raising six children. She

was employed with the Warren County School District and had

taught at Lincoln Elementary, St. Joseph’s School, and taught

English at Youngsville High School and Warren Area High

School, retiring in 1987. While at Warren Area High School, she

helped to coordinate all – school musicals.

She was involved with the Warren Players Club, former member

of Delta Kappa Gamma and in the 1980’s was honored as a

YWCA “Women of the Year” in education. She was highly

respected and loved by all for her positivity and joy of living each

day. She always put her family first and was proud of each and

every one of them.

She is survived by her six children – Patricia (Wayne) Messick of

New York City, NY., James (Linda) Hyatt of Suffolk, VA., Mary

(Glenn) Belleau of Warren, PA., Thomas Hyatt of Potomac, MD.,

Margaret (Edward) Cunnie of Narragansett, RI., William Hyatt

and fiancée, Bridgett Barkley of Warren, PA., 13 Grandchildren –

Kit Messick, Taylor, Christian and Scott Hyatt, Timothy, Emily

and Erin Belleau, Sean and Conor Hyatt, Mairin, Grace, Patrick

and Owen Cunnie, 3 Great Grandchildren, 1 niece and several

nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death

by her husband, Emerson S. Hyatt who died in 1960, 3 Brothers –

Karl, Alfred and John Krantz.

Martin E. (Gene) Nelson

Martin E. (Gene) Nelson, 88, of N. Warren, PA. and formerly of Pittsfield, PA., died Thursday morning, August 7, 2014 at 12:15 A.M. due to complications from cancer. Gene was born January 11, 1926 to the late Clarence William and Arlie Belle Johnson Nelson. He was born on Nelson Hill, Freehold Twp., where he continued to reside until recently, he moved to Warren, PA. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952, where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He worked for Warren Rural Electric Corporation for 42 years retiring in 1988. Gene was a long standing member of Berea Lutheran Church, where he was very active. After moving to Warren he attended First Lutheran Church. He very much enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, bicycling, hiking and camping, all of which he especially loved sharing with his family. He still bowled with the Sunshiners and golfed at Maplehurst with the Senior Golf League.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Engstrom Nelson whom he married May 19, 2007 at Berea Lutheran Church, Pittsfield, PA., 3 Children – Randy Nelson and wife, Lois of Northeast, PA., Linda Ross and husband, Earl of Warren, PA. Brenda Hunter and husband, Marc of Russell, PA., 3 Stepchildren – Kirsten Perry and husband, Ernest, of Eldred, PA., Dan Engstrom and wife, Ronda, of West Newton, PA., Dave Engstrom and wife, Kristy, of Warren, PA., Niece – Joyce Rowland and husband, Ken, of Warren, PA., Nephew – Bill Hartford and wife, Mira of San Jose, California, 5 Grandchildren, 7 Step Grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews.

Louis F. Berardi

Louis F. Berardi, 82, of Warren, PA. died Monday evening, July 28, 2014 at Warren General Hospital after an brief illness. He was born October 26, 1931 in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Samuel and Phyllis Barone Berardi. He was a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1951 graduate of Warren High School. He had served with the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. Louie was employed with the former Struthers Wells Corporation as a dispatcher for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member and former President of the Sons of Italy, member of Warren American Legion Post 135. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his brother – Gerald J. Berardi and wife, Nancy of Warren, PA., many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 Sisters – Betty, Jennie and Mary Berardi, 3 Brothers – John, Chuck and Sam Berardi.

Eugene A. Mascaro

Eugene Mascaro, 98, of Warren, PA. and Mt. Dora, FL., died Wednesday evening, July 23, 2014 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Rosanna Lucia Mascaro, his wife of 63 years, Helen Rose Rizza Mascaro whom he married in 1937 at Holy Redeemer Church, Warren, PA., 1 Brother – Anthony (Tony) Mascaro, his son-in-law, James Tridico. He is survived by his 4 Children – Joan Tridico, Louis Mascaro, Marlene Leonard and husband, Norman, Delores Berry and husband, Dean all of Warren, PA., 10 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, and his brother’s family, Betty Mascaro and their children.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Sandra A Bullock

Surrounded by her family, Sandra A. Bullock, 72, of Warren, PA. passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 2014 at Warren General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born January 13, 1942 in Jamestown, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Earl V. and Inez Schaefer Laih. She was a 1959 graduate of Warren High School. On July 9, 1960, Sandra married Robert C. Bullock at the former St. Clara’s R.C. Church of Clarendon, PA. They enjoyed 50 years, filled with love, centered around family until his death on November 17, 2010. She was a former resident of Portville, NY for 21 years where she and her husband operated a distributorship for Warren Concrete and then Kistner Concrete. She had previously been employed with numerous occupations throughout Warren County. She enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, and she had a gift of having lifelong friends. She enjoyed going out to eat and crocheting. She was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, where she was an active volunteer. Her greatest joys in life were her 3 granddaughters, who brought her much pride and love. Sandra was a strong willed, loving wife, mother and grandmother, who even had the strength to beat cancer.

She is survived by her children – Robert M. Bullock and his wife, Melissa of Warren, PA., Lisa A. Nianiatus and husband, George of Olean, N.Y., 3 Granddaughters – Heather Bullock Taylor and her husband, Seth of Shrewsbury, PA., Christa Nianiatus of Olean, NY, Kayla Bullock of Warren, PA, 3 Sisters – Yvonne Frame and husband, Ernest of Raeford, N.C., Mary Kay Shaver and husband, Dennis of Sheffield, PA., Renee Blymiller and husband, Gary of Barnes, PA., 1 Brother – Earl “Butch” Laih of FL., Sister-in-law, Carolyn Rockwell of Warren, PA., 3 Brother-in-laws, William Bullock and wife, Peg of Apache Junction, AZ., Dennis Bullock and wife, Gloria of Forestville, N.Y., Wayne Bullock and Helen Knisley of Warren, PA., 1 Aunt – Mary Gesey of Old Lyme, CT., several nieces and nephews.
