William D. Paul, Jr.

William “Bill” D. Paul, Jr., 70, of Warren, PA. and formerly of

Frewsburg, New York, died peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday

morning, February 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born in

Jamestown, N.Y. to the late William D. Paul, Sr. and Lois Johnson

Paul Spacht. He was a 1961 graduate of Sherman Central High

School and a 40 year resident in Frewsburg, New York. He

moved to Warren 3 years ago. Bill was employed with Fairbank

Farms, Quality Markets and retired from Sysco. He owned and

operated Frewsburg Hotel for 8 years. He was a member of St.

Joseph R.C. Church, Warren, PA., Jackson Valley Golf Club where

he was assistant Chef for past 5 years. He was an avid member of

the Warren Y.M.C.A. where he enjoyed playing Pickle Ball and

Racquet Ball.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosann Lucia Paul whom

he married May 13, 1971 in Warren, PA. at St. Joseph R.C.

Church. 2 Sons – William D. Paul, III and wife, Erika of

Rochester, N.Y., Craig Paul and fiancé Katy, both of Buffalo, N.Y.,

12 Siblings, 1 granddaughter – Elizabeth Paul, 1 grandson –

Jonathan Paul both of Rochester, N.Y. , several nieces, nephews

and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his

stepfather, Larry Spacht, 1 Brother.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5 to 8

P.M. at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street,

Warren, PA. where a vigil service will be conducted Friday

evening at 7:45 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday, February

8, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania

Avenue West, Warren, PA. by Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor.

Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery. Those wishing to

Ruth B. Cobb

Ruth B. Cobb, 89, of Warren, PA died Monday, February 3, 2014 at Golden LivingCenter – Kinzua, in Warren, PA.

Ruth was born on November 6, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late Clyde J. and Dorothy Bosin Simonsen. She was a graduate of Thiel College and lived most of her life in Warren. She was a homemaker and also helped her husband at his business, Cobb’s Wallpaper and Paint, Inc., doing a little bit of everything. Ruth was a member of First Lutheran Church in Warren where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Warren Woman’s Club, Philomel Club, and the antique study club.

Ruth is survived by her a daughter, Diane (Dick) Smith of Warren, PA, two sons, William (Celia Knapp) Cobb of Warren, PA and Dr. David (Sue) Cobb of Greensburg, PA, three grandsons, Jonathan (Whitney) Cobb, Eric (Aleshia) Smith and Patrick Smith (fiancé, Abby), nephews Jim, Jeffrey, Mark and Alan Torrance. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Gail E. Cobb who died on June 23, 2013. They were married on December 21, 1946 at the First Lutheran Church in Warren. She was also preceded by a grandson, Jeffrey David Cobb, and a nephew, Jon Torrance.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church, Warren, PA with the Reverend David Blank, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA. Hugh M. Keeney

Hugh M. Keeney, 75, of Warren, PA died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at U.P.M.C. Hamot in Erie, PA.

Born on March 31, 1938 in Buffalo, NY he was the son of the late Lloyd and Ethel Schott Keeney. On August 13, 1960 in Riverside, CA he married Shirley Ann Raver who survives.

Hugh and his wife had lived in Warren since 2006, moving to the area from California. He was a self-employed painting contractor for many years. Hugh coached Little League baseball for 44 years. He loved his family and especially enjoyed helping children.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Patrick Keeney and son-in-law, Gordon Anderson of Riverside, CA, James Keeney and Micki Monroe, both of Warren, PA, 5 grandchildren, Michael Monroe, Amanda Monroe, Sarah Blackmon, Thomas Keeney and David Keeney, 6 great-grandchildren, a brother, Earl (Dorothy) Keeney of Warren, PA, a sister, Cheryl (Tony) Catalino of Angola, NY, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Keeney.

Pamela Mintzer

In loving memory of our mom, Pamela Jean Mintzer, who was born in Warren, PA on March 10, 1950 and joined her family in heaven on January 28th. She is survived by her mother Marjorie Mintzer, daughters Kimberly Courtemanche (granddaughters Molly and Miranda) and Rebecca Berninger (son-in-law Brandon and granddaughter Keely Joy); brothers Tommy, Johnny and Charles Mintzer, niece Diana Marie Knepp and her mother Beverly Pittock as well as many faithful friends including Fran Leto, Linda Knapp, Frankie Johnson, Bonnie Woods and Pam’s extended family at the Resource Center and at Golden Living. Pamela was pre-deceased by her father James Mintzer, daughter Rhonda and loving companion Bob Peters.

Pam was an exemplary source of inspiration, strength, unconditional love, unending joy, genuine kindness and graciousness and more than we could ever have asked for. Everyone who knew her loving, generous character will forever remember her exuberant, irrepressible spirit which will forever be part of us. Thank you for having been our mom. We love you always and forever and are so truly proud to be called your own.

A celebration of Pam’s life will be held at the Interfaith Chapel on the Warren State Hospital campus on Saturday, February 1st at 11am with visitation from 9:30-11am. Timothy D. Dorrion

Timothy D. Dorrion, 52, of Clarendon, PA. died Tuesday evening,

January 28, 2014 at UPMC Allegheny General Hospital,

Pittsburgh, PA. after an extended illness. He was born January

20, 1962 in Warren, PA. Son of Sally Poulson Dorrion of

Clarendon, PA. and the late Thomas W. Dorrion, Sr. who died in

May 1999.

He was a 1980 graduate of Sheffield High School. He dedicated

his life to caring for others in various hospitals including Warren

General Hospital, W.C.A. Hospital and for many years at

Bradford Medical Center.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Lindsay

Marie Dorrion and her partner, Joe Bevevino both of Pittsburgh,

PA., 3 Siblings, Thomas W. Dorrion, Jr. and wife, Deb, Theresa

(Terri) Allison and husband, Tom all of Warren, PA., Scott W.

Dorrion and wife, Michelle of Williamsburg, VA,. Nieces and

nephews-Cheryl Dorrion Benford (Kim) Randelman, N.C.,

William J. Dorrion (partner Amy White) Warren, PA., Joseph T.

Allison (Rachel), Shawn P. Allison (Anique) all of Elmira, N.Y.,

Kristen Allison – Johnson (Neil) Kane, PA., Jennifer Dorrion,

Saegertown, PA., Morgan Dorrion, Williamsburg, VA., Jessica

Grizzle, Tyler Dorrion and Maggie Dorrion all of South Carolina

and great nephew, Jalen Dorrion, several aunts, uncles, cousins,

as well as his best pal his cat, Theo and grand pets Wilfred and

O’Malley.

maternal grandparents, William J. and Mildred Poulson; paternal

Ruth E. Freeman

Ruth Elaine Freeman, 86, Philip E. Freeman’s beloved wife of 63 years, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 27, 2014 after a one month stay at Warren Manor. She was born on April 18, 1927 to the late J. Mervyn and Mary A. Hector Campbell.

Ruth graduated from Warren High school in 1945 and attended Houghton College where she studied music and excelled at tennis. On September 23, 1950 she married Philip at the Clarendon Methodist Church. They lived in North Warren for 15 years before returning to Clarendon, where Ruth had grown up.

Ruth’s many interests included crafts, playing the piano and organ by ear and having lots of flowers to make her home look beautiful. She was a lifelong member of the Clarendon United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday for 30 years and she also taught Bible school and sang in the choir. Ruth had been a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Warren County Cooperative Extension Board. Two of her favorite activities were making and filling Christmas stockings for family and friends and having an Easter egg hunt for her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Philip, Ruth is survived by three daughters, Marilyn McCoy, Marge (Randy) Jones and Norma Todd and her fiancé, Kevin Inwood, all of Warren, PA, seven grandchildren, Melissa (Jon) Kulp, Kelly McCoy and her fiancé Brad Rubbo, Adam McCoy, Jeremiah McCracken, Justin (Ashley) McCracken, Eric Jones and Emily Jones, and five great-grandchildren, Elijah Kulp, Madison McCracken and Sophie McCracken, and Parker and Phoenix McCracken. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Campbell and son-in-law, Lew Todd.

Frances VanVolkinburg

Frances C. VanVolkinburg, 84, of Warren, Pa. died Tuesday morning, January 28, 2014 in Warren, Pa. Daughter of the late John and Kathrine Pekor Cash. She was a lifelong Warren area resident. Fran was a 1947 graduate of Warren High School. She was a clerical worker with the former Bell Telephone Company for many years. Fran was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church and the church altar rosary society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her 2 children – James VanVolkinburg and his wife, Darlene of Washington, PA., Ann VanVolkinburg of Ocoee, FL., 4 Grandchildren – David, Emily, Nicole and Matthew VanVolkinburg, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jack VanVolkinburg, whom she married at St. Joseph Church, Warren, PA. on June 20, 1953, and who died on August 22, 2011, 1 Brother – Johnny Cash, Jr., 1 Sister – Marion Cash Byer.

Donald E. Rice

Donald E. Rice, a truly gentle man, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 23, 2014 after an unfair fight with kidney disease at the age of 84. Don graduated from Sheffield High in 1947. He served as a Sergeant 1st Class with the 28th Division during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1990 after 34 years as a shift supervisor with Penelec. Don was an active member of the Epworth and Covenant United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and on numerous committees. He had been a member of the North Star Masonic Lodge #241, a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troup #37 for ten years, and a member of the Glade Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid volunteer with the Faith Inn, “Are You Okay?”, RSVP Toy Shoppe, Meals on Wheels, and Warren General Hospital. Don enjoyed the simple life of loving God, helping family and spending time with wonderful friends and neighbors.

Don leaves his devoted wife of 64 years, Ruth Miller Rice, his loving children, Dawn (John Blanding) of Fairport, NY, Kim of Stafford, VA, and Beth (Ralph Bush) of Colorado Springs, CO, his adoring grandchildren, Lee (Denea) of Stafford, VA, Kyle (Melinda) Bush, Elyse (Ryan) Seal, and Leah Bush, all of Colorado Springs, CO, his wonderful great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Spencer and Trenton Rice, sisters, Elizabeth (Bill) Wilson and Harriet (Ray) Reedy, and many nephews and nieces. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Isabelle Blanding Rice, brothers John, Harry, Charles C., William, and George, sister, Ellen Louise Swoyer and daughter-in-law, Judy Rice.

Allen R. Lyon, Sr.

Allen R. Lyon, Sr., 82, of Warren, PA. died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Warren General Hospital after an illness since, May 2013. He was born January 21, 1932 in Youngsville, PA., son of the late William A. and Minnie Cooper Lyon. He was a Warren area resident most of his life. He had served with the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War, serving with Company I, 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division in Germany, earning an occupational medal. He was employed as a quality control inspector in the Bearings Dept. of SKF, formerly Marlin Rockwell of Jamestown, N.Y. retiring in 1989 after 38 years employment. He was also a self-employed roofer. A member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Warren, Tidioute V.F.W., served as Past Commander of the Warren American Legion Post 135, Warren Senior Center, and a driver for Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Zwald Lyon whom he married December 13, 1952 in Warren, PA., 6 Children – Judy Stockhausen and husband, Lewis of Bear Lake, PA., Kathie Reed and husband, Allan of Pittsfield, PA., Carol Nuhfer and husband, James of Harrisburg, PA., Rebecca Bayne of Oil City, PA., Allen R. Lyon, Jr. and wife, Julie of Cochranton, PA., Michael Lyon and wife, Jora of Pittsfield, PA., 2 Sisters – Geneva Nagy of Warren, PA., Alice Mabb of Ballston Spa, N.Y., 2 Sister-in-laws, Marilyn “Jean” Gustafson of Warren, PA., Mary Carol Cartney of Titusville, PA., 16 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Charles R. McAvoy

Charles R. McAvoy, 82, Warren, PA. died peacefully Tuesday morning, January 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born March 10, 1932 in Corry, PA. Son of the late William and Ruby Sheets McAvoy. Charles was a Warren area resident for the past 58 years and a former Corry area resident. He had served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. Chuck was employed with G.T.E. Sylvania in the Maintenance Dept. for retiring from there after 25 years employment. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.

He is survived by 5 Children – Sandra Farnsworth of Cleveland, OH., Cindy Fredericks and Karen Turner both of Erie, PA., Rodney McAvoy, Daniel McAvoy and wife, Yvonne all of Warren, PA., 6 Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel M. Clark McAvoy who died June 21, 1986 whom he married July 5, 1954 in Chautauqua, New York, 1 infant son, Charles Robert McAvoy, 4 Sisters – Betty Cass, Irene Proper, Billie Kuhn, Gertrude Coons, 2 Brothers – Alfred W. “Bud” McAvoy, James McAvoy.
