Clarabelle E. Blum

Clarabelle Blum, 81 a resident of the Warren Manor and formally of Sheffield, Pa, died on Thursday February 21, 2013. She was born February 27, 1931 to the late Clarence and Lily Whitehill Brewster. She has resided in Sheffield for the past 25 years. She was a housewife, mother, and retired from Blair Corp. Her favorite past time was playing bingo. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grand children, and the family pet Frit.

She is survived by her children: Rita Hawk of Clarendon, Pa; Rhonda Williams of Sheffield, Pa; and Royce Blum and wife Michelle of Ludlow, Pa, one brother: Ray Brewster and wife Martha of Sheffield, Pa, four grand children: Rodney Littlefield and mate Melinda McLaughlin; Carey Williams and wife Amy; Jessica Asel and husband Matt; Jamie Blum and fiance Janet Hahn, one step grand daughter: Heidi Hedges and husband Keith, five great grand children: Justin Smith; Garret Littlefield; Kourtnee, and Zachary Asel; Leah, and Daphne Williams, one step great grand daughter: Elyse Hedges.

In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her ex-husband Charles Blum, a great grand daughter: Kaylea Littlefield, four brothers: Robert, Merle, Clarence, and Lloyd Brewster, four sisters: Leona Carnahan; Ruby Catlin; Betty Sager; and Flossie Charlesworth.

There will be no visitation or services per Clarabelle’s wishes. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday February 24, 2013, at the Ludlow Fire Hall from 11-2.

Esther Lamar

Esther L. Lamar, 84, resident of the Warren Manor, 682 Pleasant Drive, Warren, PA. formerly of Hazeltine Hollow Road, Youngsville, PA., passed away at the Warren Manor on Sunday, February 16, 2013, our wonderful mother, wife, grandma, great grandma, and aunt, was called to her eternal home. Born April 8, 1928, at home in Corry, PA. She was the daughter of Lionel and Nellie Jamison Sillaway. On September 21, 1946 she married William Willis Lamar in Corry, PA. Esther enjoyed crocheting and traveling in her retirement years before her husband passed away. In her later years she enjoyed writing letters to her many friends and her niece in Missouri. She also enjoyed reading the Amish series of books by Beverly Lewis and doing circle word books at her leisure. Mrs. Lamar is a retiree from the Rouse Home, where she had made many wonderful friends. She had also worked at Roy’s Texas Lunch of Warren and the Way-Side Restaurant in Youngsville, PA. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband till his death on July 11, 2002. Her surviving children Sharon Hilyer and Thomas Lamar were the pride and joy of her life. Also surviving are her grandchildren – Jennifer Hilyer Perkins, Nathan Hilyer, Leoma Lowman, Daisy Lamar Danny Lamar, Jason Dexter, Troy Dexter, and Willy Dexter, 5 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters – Shirley Lamar Griffith, Patricia Lamar Dexter, two grandchildren – Denny Lamar and Baby Dexter, stepbrothers – Harry and Clarence Bromely and her four sisters – Iva Maine, Lena Green, Grace Maine, and Edith Keith. There will be no visitation hours observed, a memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Phyllis Pihlblad

Phyllis Alamenciak Pihlblad, 75, a resident of the Rouse Suites, Youngsville, PA. and formerly of Warren, PA. died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. after an extended illness. She was born May 7, 1937 in Erie, PA. to the late Charles and Helen Clapp Alamenciak. She has resided in Warren since 1959. Phyllis was a 1955 graduate of St. Benedict Academy High School and was a licensed beautician. She had been employed as a supervisor with the former Bell Telephone Co. and office manager of A Safeplace and Market Street Hearing Aid Center. She was a former member of Our Lady of Victory R.C. Church, Frewsburg, N.Y. where she was a catechism teacher and Eucharistic minister and a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, Warren, PA. and their church Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Russell Knitting Club, former member of the Conewango Valley Country Club where she enjoyed golfing. She cooked gourmet style and gave demonstrations for the mothers club and Jamestown Post Journal. She was an avid traveler, boater, fisherman, card player and enjoyed her social life. She had a great love for her cats. She was a strong and devout Catholic. She is survived by her daughters – Robin Susan Anderson and husband, Duane, Wendy Ann Pihlblad Wilkins and husband, Rodney all of Warren, PA., 3 Grandchildren – Rodney William Wilkins and wife, Makala, Mariah Alyssa Allen, Arick Edward Allen. Julia Ann Albaugh

Julia Ann Albaugh, 87, a resident of the Warren Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Clarendon, PA. died at her residence Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:40 A.M. She was born October 4, 1925 in Warren, PA. to the late Andrew and Theresa Kopko Kavinski. She had resided in the Warren area for 57 years. She was a housewife, mother and employed for 10 years with the United Refinery Company from 1974 to 1984. She was a long standing member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church and a member of their Altar Rosary Society. She was Vice President of the Patient Council at Warren Manor Nursing Home. Julia was a kind, generous and spiritual women who prayed the rosary daily for those in need and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children – Diane Taylor and husband, Ed of Cornelius, N.C., Nancy Moore and husband, Robert of Cookeville, TN., Connie Olson and husband, Don of Wheaton, IL., 1 Sister – Dorothy Wykoff of Warren, PA., Close Companion and caregiver for several years – Ted (Razzy) Gustafson of Warren, PA., 5 Grandchildren – Chad Gebhardt and wife, Dolores, Jason Smith and wife, Nikki, Ryan Olson, Kaylyn Moore, Lindsay Olson, 7 Great Grandchildren – Jordyn, Grant, Makenzie, Jaxson, Brooke, Jada, Maiya. Ruth Edan Javens Young, 83, a resident of Golden Living-Kinzua died Wednesday morning, February 13, 2013 at Warren General Hospital. She was born January 11, 1930 in Warren, PA. to the late Arthur Morris and Mabel Isabelle Nelson Javens. She had previously lived on Griff Hill Road, Clarendon, PA. She is survived by her children – Sandra Lee Young of Jamestown, N.Y., Jeffrey L. Young and his wife, Sharon of Sheffield, PA., Judith A. Ruby and husband, Darrell of Warren, PA., Steven R. Young and wife, LuAnn of Sheffield, Pa., Roy A. Young of Arizona, Robert S. Young and wife, Tammy of Florida, 1 Brother – Richard Javens of Jamestown, N.Y., 13 Grandchildren 5 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Carl William”Bill” Anderson

Carl William “Bill” Anderson, 85, Warren, Pa. died Monday evening, February 11, 2013 at Rouse Warren Co. Home after an extended illness. He was born July 12, 1927 in Warren, Pa. to the late Sven (Burt) and Svea Bloomgren Anderson. Bill has resided his entire life in Warren and was a 1945 graduate of Warren High School. He had served with the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during World War II. He was employed with the Warren Post Office as accountant, window clerk, and floor worker. He served as Manager of the Federal Employees Credit Union retiring from there after 37 years service. He was a member of the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Woodruff Anderson whom he married August 1, 1953 in Warren, Pa., 4 Children – Gary Anderson, Ellen Scalise, Emily Cassidy and her husband, James, Kristen Baughman and her husband, Brian, 2 Sisters – Virginia Thompson, Dorothy Turner, 9 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol J. Littlefield, 71, of Warren, PA. died Monday afternoon, February 11, 2013 at the Rouse Warren County Home, Youngsville, PA. after an extended illness. She was born February 7, 1942 in Warren, PA. to the late Howard and Ruth Steele Ansell. Carol was a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1960 graduate of Warren High School. She had been employed with Osram Sylvania retiring from there after many years service. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Ladies of the Warren Moose Lodge 109, where she enjoyed playing bingo. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. She is remembered by friends and family with joy, when Carol walked into a room the room lite up. She was a 1950 graduate of Warren High School and was employed in the reservations department for the former TWA Airlines retiring from there any many years service. Gilbert “Jim” Reier

Gilbert “Jim” Reier, 99, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Warren General Hospital. He was born on April 5, 1913 in Pittsburgh, PA. to the late Louis B. and Bertha E. Reier. Graduated from Dormont High School in 1932 and entered the School of Forestry at Penn State that same year, graduating in 1936. He met Bertha Gregory while they were both students at Penn State and were married on September 20, 1936 at Grace Lutheran Church in State College. He was employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Pittsburgh as a draftsman and transferred to Warren in 1937. He became Superintendent of Parks and Playgrounds for Warren in 1942 and as Superintendent of Public Works in 1968, retiring in 1978. Jim was a member of First Lutheran Church, served as Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Church Council and the Property Committee for both the Parish Education Building and the Church edifice. He and his wife maintained the church grounds for a period of 20 years. Jim served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

He is survived by his son-in-law, Richard Schultz, 5 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie Schultz in April 1987 and by his wife of 68 years in July 2005.

Ruth Cataldo

Ruth Cataldo, 75, of Sugar Grove, PA. died Thursday afternoon, February 7, 2013 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home after an extended illness. She was born February 2, 1938 in Kinzua, PA. to the late William L. and Edith V. Bova Strong. She has resided in Warren and Sugar Grove areas most of her life. Ruth was a graduate of Warren Area High School Class of 1956 and was employed with the Pennsylvania Employment Office for 21 years. She had also owned and operated the former Echo Valley Store in Sugar Grove, PA. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church. Ruth was a huge family genealogist, collector of dolls and doll houses, antiques, and an avid crafter. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Cataldo, Jr. whom she married June 9, 1956 at Holy Redeemer R. C. Church, Warren, PA. 3 Sons – Mark Allan Cataldo and wife, Sandra, Michael Cataldo and wife, Dawn, William Cataldo all of Sugar Grove, PA. Grandson Robbie Joe Cataldo whom she helped raise 1 Brother – Ralph G. Strong and his wife, Nancy of Mt. Morris, NY, 4 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchidren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
