Olive “Pix” Vennard

Olive “Pix” Vennard, 84, of Warren, Pa. died Wednesday afternoon, April 10, 2013 at Golden Living-Kinzua. She was born January 11, 1929 at Jamestown, N.Y. to the late John and Ruth Weiser Martin. She was a longtime Warren area resident and was formerly of Frewsburg, N.Y. Olive was a graduate of Frewsburg High School and earned her nurse’s aide training. She was employed with W.C.A. Hospital, the former Jamestown General Hospital, and then went to work at the Warren State Hospital, leaving there due to disability. She had also worked at the Floating Restaurant which had been located on the Kinzua Dam. She owned and operated Pix Ceramics. She was active with the Chief Cornplanter Boy Scouts of America Council, former president of the PTA, active with the Warren, PA and Frewsburg, NY band boosters. She enjoyed cake decorating and feeding the birds.

She is survived by her children – Ed Waid and companion, Doris of Jamestown, N.Y., Paul Waid and wife, Becky of Russell, PA. Bruce Waid of Kennedy, N.Y., Scott Vennard and companion, Becky of Chapel Hill, N.C. , Rosemary Fannin and husband, Stephen of Warren, PA., 1 Stepdaughter – Sharon Sheffer and husband, Joe of Cyclone, PA., 1 Sister – Dorothy Mara and husband, Gary of Erie, PA., Sister-in-laws, Susan Ellis and husband, Frank of Frewsburg, N.Y., Jeanette Barbagallo of Twin Falls, ID., 14 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Vennard who died March 20, 2005, 1 Stepson – Lenny Vennard, 3 Half Sisters – Twila M. Lang, Edura Lang, Ethel Graham, 3 Half Brothers – John, Wade and Elwood Martin, 1 Great Grandson.

David William Taylor

David William Taylor, 70, of Warren, PA. passed away Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous and very determined battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, and his beloved dog, Watson, who he named after the surgeon that saved his life at the beginning of his battle. Dave was born in Corry, Pa and resided in Warren since 1969. He was a 1961 graduate of Corry High School. He was employed by former Mahan Motors for almost 40 years, beginning as a salesman and promoting to sales manager until the business was purchased by Jones Chevrolet in 2010. He was extremely devoted to his work and enjoyed and looked forward to yearly trips to Las Vegas with his close friends, and occasional trips to the Salamanca casino. Prior to his illness, he thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, riding snowmobiles, his ATV, cutting wood and mowing the lawn. Dave was a former member of the Warren Moose Lodge 109. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, earning several medals for jungle warfare in the Panama Canal, the Bay of Pigs Incident, and two and one half years with the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France. While with the Embassy, his duties included security for many European and American dignitaries and Presidents. During his tour in France, he took the opportunity to travel to many European countries, and while in Spain he participated in the “Running of the Bulls” and kept the sword for reminiscing with his family. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Paul (Red) and Marguerite Neylon Taylor, brother-in-law, John Wascak, sister-in-law, Sandi Shannon and his wife’s parents, Angelo Ceriola and Bernadine Ceriola Goyda. He is survived by his wife, Cheri Ceriola Taylor whom he married October 21, 1967 in Warren, PA. and in 2012, celebrated their 45th Anniversary, his devoted children, Scott A. Taylor and wife, Pam, Cheyelle N. Couse and husband, Justin all of Warren, Pa., 4 grandchildren – Karly and Hanna Taylor, Owen and Lincoln Couse were the light of his life, and he enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible, and looked forward to their visits. Dave is also survived by one brother, John Taylor, Corry, PA., four sisters – Mary Lou Bober and husband, Gabe, Fanwood, N.J., Martha Taylor, Erie, PA., Barbara Wascak, Mentor, OH, and Judy Goodwill and husband, Paul, Corry, PA., several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Lucille Tompsett Simmons

Lucille Simmons, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in the Hospice Room at Warren General Hospital, due to a intracerebral hemorrhage. Lucille Tompsett Simmons of Warren, PA. was born in Tidioute, PA. on April 30, 1924 to the late Frank C. and Margaret May Vincent Tompsett who were of Tidioute, PA. As a young girl, she was a member of the Methodist Church in Tidioute where she enjoyed playing the piano for Sunday School classes. She was a student in the Tidioute schools and graduated from Tidioute High School in 1942, and then attended Hoff Business College and took “Beginning Shorthand” from Warren County School District offerings. She took courses from the Management Center of Cambridge in 1969 and Penn State University Continuing Education in 1974. Her first employment was at the Emblem Oil Company, and then the marketing division of United Refining Company, from June 24, 1943 to January 31, 1944. Following this position, she worked for the Thomas Flexible Coupling Company, which later became Rexnord, where she worked for thirty-four years as a secretary to various executives. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Warren. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, playing the piano, and boating on the Kinzua Dam and especially enjoyed spending weekends at Connelly Park at Lake Chautauqua where her father had a summer home. She had several dogs throughout her life and enjoyed animals very much. She was married to John William Simmons of West Hickory, PA. on January 7, 1946. He passed away on June 25, 2010, at the age of 87. She had one sister, Audrey Lois Swanson who died August 11, 2003 in Bonita Springs, FL., She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Gupta and beloved grandson, Shaun Anand Gupta both of North Warren, PA., nephews – Jeffrey Warren Swanson of Dubois, PA.., Steven D. Swanson who currently resides with his family in Dubai, a city- state in the United Arab Emirates. Jeannine Loranger

Jeannine Loranger, 92, of Warren, PA. died peacefully Sunday morning, April 7, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born September 4, 1920 in- Salem, MA. to the late Alexander and Arthemise Roi Dion. She was a Warren area resident since 1946, moving from, Salem, Mass. Jeannine was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church where she was a member of the church Altar Rosary Society and the former Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Warren Women’s Club, Warren Garden Club, The Philomel Club, and the Conewango Valley Country Club. She is fondly remembered as a tremendous cook and the family has compiled a family cookbook with her recipes. She was an avid golfer and bridge player who enjoyed the pleasantry of competing with friends where all were winners simply by participating. When her husband started the business in the basement of their home on Warren’s Southside, Jeannine was his first press operator. Unfortunately, the very first mold overheated and was completely ruined causing them both to cry on the basement steps. With much prayer and the luck of winning $500 at a St Joseph 50/50 raffle, they were able to rebuild the mold. This was the beginning of Loranger Manufacturing Corporation which employed up to 500 people in its peak years. She is survived by her 4 sons – Albert Loranger, Jr. and his wife, Diane, George P. Loranger and his wife, Sue of Budapest and Sarasota, FL, Robert Loranger and his wife, Christine of Woodland Hills, CA., John Loranger and his wife, Christine of Warren, PA., 1 Sister – Claire Belleau and her husband, Robert of Warren, PA., Grandchildren – Al III and Sheila Loranger, Ariane and Robert Dart, Steve and Erin Loranger, Danielle Loranger and Andy Saeli, Jeff and Klara Loranger, Rachelle and Sean Considine, Robert and Kate Loranger, Julia Loranger, Paul Loranger, Matt Loranger, Michael Loranger, Scott Loranger, David Loranger, several Step Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren – Lilly Loranger, Lyndsey and Alex Dart, PJ and Will Loranger, Ava and Marley Peterson and George Saeli, Mila Loranger, Claire and Sophia Considine, Trey and Preston Loranger, several Step Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Thelma V. Berlin, 91, of Warren, PA. died Friday morning, March 29, 2013 at Golden Living-Kinzua. She was born on October 4, 1921 at Kinzua, PA. to the late Bert and Mary Morrison Dennison. Thelma was a longtime resident of Warren, PA. and was employed with the former G.T.E. Sylvania in the Plastics Dept. retiring in 1981 after 33 years. She is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her 3 Children – Barbara Werner and husband, Edward of Pittsburgh, PA., Bonnie Guiher and husband, Terry of Lander, PA., Robert A. Berlin of Warren, PA. 1 Brother-in-law, Wesley Sherman of Russell, PA., 8 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. Charles E. Ecklund, Sr.

Charles E. Ecklund, Sr., 66, of Clarendon, PA. died Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013 at the Erie Veterans Administration Medical Center, Erie, PA. after an illness since November 2012. He was born November 15, 1946 in Warren, PA. to the late Clarence Ecklund and Audrey Regal Ecklund Papalia. He has resided in Clarendon his entire life and was a 1954 graduate of Warren High School. He was employed as a welder and press operator with Berenfield Container for many years retiring in 2007. Charles was a member of the Clarendon V.F.W. , was an avid hunter, fisherman and Nascar fan. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends. He is survived by 5 children – Charles E. Ecklund, Jr. and his companion, Suzanne Ehrhart , Valerie Madigan and husband, Dave all of Warren, PA., James Ecklund of Clarendon, PA., Brian Ecklund and his partner, Echo of Warren, PA., Christopher Roberts of Mt. Lois E. Gelotte

Lois E. Gelotte, 88, of Warren, PA. died Wednesday at 11:45 A.M. March 20, 2013 at Warren Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born August 31, 1924 in Corry, Pa. to the late Charles and Margie Sweet Abbey. She was a lifelong Warren area resident residing a short time in Chesapeake, VA. Lois was a graduate of Youngsville High School Class of 1942 and was employed with the Warren County School District working in the central office for 15 years, retiring in 1988. She was of the Catholic faith. Lois was a volunteer for 15 years at Warren General Hospital where she had over 2200 hours of service. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing over the years with her husband and friends. She is survived by her daughter – Betsy Levans and her husband, Fred, 2 sons – Steven Gelotte and his wife, Barbara all of Warren, PA., Thomas Gelotte and his wife, Frannie of Erie, PA., 9 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mary Alice Redin

Mary Alice Redin, 88, of Warren, PA. died peacefully Saturday evening, March 16, 2013 at Golden Living-Kinzua after an extended illness. She was born May 29, 1924 in Tidioute, PA. to the late Ralph M. and Florence Hendrikson Conklin. She was a lifelong Warren area resident. Mary Alice attended Tidioute High School and graduated in 1940 from Warren High School. She was a 1944 graduate of Clarion State College where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and earned her Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from University of Syracuse. She was employed as a school teacher with Cranberry School District for 3 years and with the Warren County School District as a English Teacher , teaching at Tidioute High School retiring from there after 32 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Pennsylvania Association of Retired School Employees, College Club, Warren Women’s Club, active in the Warren Senior Center, Volunteer with the Warren Literacy Council, member of the Honorary Society of Delta Kappa Gamma and also Beta Phy Mu which is a Honorary Society for Librarians. She was an avid Reader and Gardener. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William A. Redin whom she married June 4, 1953 at the Youngsville Methodist Church, Youngsville, PA., 2 Sisters – Anna May Finney of Erie, PA., Ruth E. David A. Heimann

David A. Heimann, 68, of Warren, PA. died Thursday morning, March 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born October 23, 1944 in Warren, PA. to the late Arnold Freidrick and Marian Emma Fitzgerald Heimann. David was a 1962 graduate of Warren High School and earned his associates degree in Business Management from the Lincoln Management Development Service. He was employed as a tool and die maker at the former Rexnord. He was a salesman from 1981 to 1985 for Yale Equipment and owner and operator of Heimann Enterprises from 1985 to 1991 where he sold capital equipment and retired in 1991. He and his wife operated a family owned day care center and were longtime foster parents. He was a member of Emmanuel Church of Christ, past member of the Warren Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 135, Warren Eagles for 20 years and the De Molay. He was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda J. Gift Heimann whom he married August 18, 1962 in Warren, 3 Children – Sandy Koren and husband, Steve of Peoria, AZ., Robin Hecei of Brookville, PA., Peter D. Heimann of Toms River, N.J., 1 Sister – Linda Secor and husband, Richard of Warren, PA., 3 Grandsons – Justin Muir and companion, Stacie Myers, Tim and James Hecei, 1 Great Granddaughter – Elizabeth Kaydeen Muir, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters – Doris Lewis, fern Fischer, Marianne Nicholson and longtime faithful friend and companion, his yellow lab, Rusty.
