Anthony Pellegrino, 87

Anthony Pellegrino

Anthony J. Pellegrino, 87, of Warren, PA. died surrounded by his family at his residence, Friday morning, October 5, 2012. He was born June 19, 1925 in Sheffield, PA. to the late Anthony and Angela Papalia Pellegrino. He has resided in Warren since 1960 and was formerly from Kane, PA. He was a 1943 graduate of Sheffield High School. In September 1943, he volunteered for military service and was inducted in the U.S. Army where he served as part of the 5th Army, liberating Rome. He was moved from Rome to Nancy, France where he was transferred into the the 7th Army making an amphibious landing on August 15, 1944 in Southern France. His troop continued through all of France into Germany and finally to Salsbury, Austria. He was wounded in France and awarded the Purple Heart. He also earned the Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star, Bronze Star, European Theatre Medal with ne Arrow Head and Four Battle Stars, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, The Combat Infantry Badge and the French Citation. After the service he enrolled at Buffalo State College and Edinboro State Teachers College where he obtained his business background. Tony built, owned and operated the former Warren Skating Rink, the former Lucky Strike Tavern and had worked at the former Pellegrino Grocery Store in Sheffield, PA. In 1946 he processed canned peppers in his mother’s basement, in 1970 the business had outgrown itself and he purchased the former Walker Dairy where he owned and operated Pellegrino Foods and was in a retired state but still active in operations. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, was a usher, served on the Stewardship Campaign and a member of the church Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Warren Knights of Columbus Council where he was a 4th degree member. Family was the center of his whole life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angela Zucco Pellegrino whom he married June 10, 1950 at St. Callistus R.C. Church, Kane, PA. his 5 Children – Angie Clopp and husband, Tom, Mary Ann Church and husband, David, Anthony Pellegrino and wife, Anita, Tom Pellegrino and wife, Sally all of Warren, PA., Rose Willis and husband, Mike of Carlisle, PA., 2 Sisters – Margaret Novosel of Kane, PA., Angie Pellegrino of Warren, PA., 11 Grandchildren – Tom, Michael and Greg Clopp, Angela Foote, Anthony Pellegrino IV, Alex Anthony Pellegrino, Lauren Hokamp, Edwin Willis, Joseph, Maria and Thomas Pellegrino, 2 Great Grandchildren – Jakey Clopp, Christopher Foote, several nieces and nephews. Robert Valone, 90

Robert Valone

Robert J. Valone, 90, of Russell, PA. died Thursday, October 4, 2012 surrounded by his family at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, PA. after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was born March 26, 1922 in Clarendon, PA. to the late J. Battista and Theresa Frucci Valone. He has resided in the Warren and Russell area most of his entire life and had wintered for 26 years in Oviedo, FL. He had served with the U.S. Army as a Medic with the 304th Infantry Regiment during World War II serving in Germany, where he earned a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal .

Bob owned and operated Valone Auto Sales in Starbrick, PA. and Oviedo, FL. and also was employed as a car salesman with Midtown Motors and Shults Dodge Chrysler Dealership retiring at the age of 90. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Winterpark, FL Elks Lodge, served as 1st Commander of the Oviedo Veterans of Foreign Wars Club and a former member of the Warren Moose Lodge 109. Bob loved going to the Casino and golfing. He is lovingly remembered as a family man who was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his dear wife of 64 years, Jean Anderson Valone whom he married August 7, 1948, 3 Children – Dr. Dennis R. Valone and wife, Pam of Erie, PA., Jim Valone and wife, Ruth of Russell, PA., Pam Falber and husband, Benji of Warren, PA., 5 Grandchildren – Christy, Tracey (David Anderson), Taylor (Jill Dugan), Kendra and Jesse, 3 Great Grandchildren – Brandon, Ryan and Symantha, several nieces and nephews. Rose A. Reist, 67

Rose A. Reist, 67, of 108 Oak St, Warren, PA. died Monday morning, October 1, 2012 at the Warren Manor Nursing Home after a month long illness. She was born September 10, 1945 in Warren, PA. to the late Charles W. and Mina C. Stoddard Reist.

She was a 1963 graduate of Warren High School and earned her associates degree in business at Jamestown Business College. Rose was employed with PNC Bank East Side Branch and the Warren Holiday Inn. She retired in 2007 from Blair Corporation as a Customer Service Representative. She was a member of the Warren Salvation Army congregation. She enjoyed crocheting and being a “AUNT” to her family and persons she wasn’t even related too.

She is survived by 1 Brother – Albert C. Reist and wife, Dorothy of Farmington Twp., 2 Sisters – Barbara J. Cook and husband, Richard of North Warren, PA., Mary Chapel of Pleasant Twp.,

Life Long and grade school friend, Nancy Stanko of Warren, PA., several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Brothers – Richard H. and Robert C. Reist, 1 infant brother and sister. Marjorie Lopez, 77

Marjorie Lopez, 77, of Warren, PA died on Monday morning, September 17, 2012 at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House. She was born March 28, 1935 in Falconer, NY to the late Elmer and Linnea Francis.

Marjorie graduated from Falconer High School and was a resident of Warren for the past 56 years. She was employed by the city of Warren as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement. Marjorie believed in natural health and well-being and promoted this as an active Shaklee distributor. She loved music classical to pop and spent her summers enjoying concerts, symphonies, operas and theatre at Chautauqua Institution.

As a member of the Unity of Chautauqua Church, she loved and served her church as a longtime member of their board of directors. Every Sunday throughout the Chautauqua season she cooked and served a luncheon for the public at her church. Marjorie loved the Warren community and served it in many different ways over the years. She was an active and supportive volunteer of the Struthers Library Theater, a member of the Women’s Club, the Lion and Lioness clubs, Philomel club, the Garden club and the Antique Study club, along with tirelessly volunteering for many city organizations and events over the years.

Marjorie was famous for making outstanding homemade pies – apple, rhubarb, cherry, pecan, berry and that unforgettable pie crust. May a smile come upon your face as you remember your favorite!

Marjorie is survived by her daughters – Susan George of Warren and Sally (Kent) Heeter of Key Largo, FL.; a sister – Alice (Ralph) Brown of Randolph, NY; a brother in law – William Johnson of Warren along with many nieces and nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by two sisters – Laura Johnson of Warren and Faye Caswell of Falconer.

Michael V. Lindvay, 91

Michael V. Lindvay, 91, of Warren, PA. died Monday morning, September 17, 2012 after an extended illness. He was born September 5, 1921 in Lackron, Green Co., PA. to the late Michael and Mary Lindvay. He has resided most of his entire life in Warren County, PA. and was a 1941 graduate of Youngsville High School. He earned a certificate of blueprint reading at a correspondence school in Scranton, PA. Michael had served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the U.S. Signal Air Warning Battalion as a signal corps ground aircraft observer, plotting, waterproofing and sharpshooting during World War II and received 5 bronze stars serving in Normandy, France, Belguim and Central Europe. He owned and operated the former Lindvay Diner in the 1960’s in Youngsville, PA. and was employed for 35 years as a Class A Fitter with the former Pittsburgh Demoine Steel Corporation retiring from there in 1986. Michael was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church and a former member of the Holy Name Society. He was a life member of the Clarendon V.F.W. and served as commander of the former Warren V.F.W. Post 631 and was district commander of the 19th District. He was a former commander of the Coodie and a member of the Warren American Legion Post 135, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Warren Eagles Aerie, Sugar Grove Senior Center Kitchen Volunteer and bingo caller. Senior Olympics participant, avid walker, walking 3 miles everyday, avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He placed flags on veterans graves at Wetmore Cemetery. He made numerous clocks and sold them nationwide. He enjoyed gardening and helping his wife, can vegetables.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys May Anderson Lindvay whom he married June 18, 1949 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Warren, PA., 4 Children – Nancy Marie Gustafson and husband, Allan, Michael A. Lindvay and wife, Lona all of Warren, PA., Sue Ann Irvine and husband, Bruce of Pinetta, FL., Elizabeth McClellan and husband, Stanley, Jr., of Warren, PA., 1 Brother – Joseph Lindvay of Erie, Pa., 9 Grandchildren – Carrie Gustafson, Tracy Carlson and husband, Mathew, Christopher Lindvay and wife, Emily, and Kevin Lindvay and wife, Amanda, Douglas Irvine and wife, Bobbie and Dustin Irvine, Kellie Goldthwaite and husband, Joseph, Stephanie Larson and her husband, Toby, and Amy McClellan; 8 Great Grandsons; 5 Great Granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Andrew and Anna Zolko who raised him; and a sister – Mary Irman.

Anne Tassone, 88

Anne Rossell Tassone, 88, of Warren, PA. died at 8:17 A.M. Wednesday morning, September 12, 2012 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home. She was born December 19, 1923 in Warren, PA. to the late Merle and Alta Virtue Rossell. She was a lifelong Warren resident and was a 1941 graduate of Warren Area High School. Anne was employed for 25+ years with New Process Company. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the church Altar Rosary Society, volunteer for their Catholic Christian Doctrine program and worked many wedding receptions and other church dinners.

She was a member of the Warren Y.M.C.A., enjoyed reading, playing cards with her friends and playing Bocce. Anne was an avid golfer for many years and an active volunteer with the Warren Public Library Association.

She is survived by her 6 children – Camilla Hays and husband, Bob of Glenmoore, PA., Gail Robillard of Warren, PA., Ronald G. Tassone and wife, Natalie of Edinboro, PA., Nick A. Tassone, Jr. of N. Warren, PA., Mark A. Tassone and wife, Jackie of Cincinnati, OH., Daniel J. Tassone and wife, Linda of Warren, PA., 1 Sister – Jeanne Parisi of Warren, PA., 6 Grandchildren – Jessica Tassone, Justin Blair, Mark Tassone, Katie (Andy) Hays, Kelly Robillard, Abby Tassone. 1 Great Grandson – Arlo Ciatola.

Jeannine Oleksak, 83, of Warren, PA. died Monday, September 10, 2012 at 12:55 P.M. at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home after an extended illness. She was born October 14, 1928 in Oil City, PA. to the late Edward and Elizabeth Sanner McGraw. She was a resident of Warren for the past 65 years and was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School of Oil City, PA. Jeannine was employed as a clerk at New Process Company, former Betty Lee Dress Shop and Levinson Brothers Department Store, she retired after 10 years employment at the Bon Ton Dept. Store.

She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church. Jeannine always put her family first, where it was the center of her life, especially loved her grandchildren. She loved watching old movies.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Anthony “Tony” J. Oleksak whom she married October 22, 1955 in Oil City, PA., 2 Daughters – Ann Oleksak Vizza and husband, Louie, Margaret Oleksak Lodowski and husband, Rick all of Warren, PA., 1 Sister – Carol Rudisille of Lancaster, OH., 1 Sister-in-law, Mary Catherine McGraw of Meadville, PA., 3 Grandchildren – Mollie (Adam) VanOre, Peter Vizza, Ricky Lodowski all of Warren, PA., several nieces and nephews. Anna B. Leonard, 86

Anna B. Leonard, 86, of Warren, PA died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in Warren General Hospital. She was born March 13, 1926 in Sharon, PA to the late Finley and Ruby Shook Beatty. She and her husband, Louis B. Leonard owned and operated a family farm on German Hill for 42 years and was a former resident of Youngsville, PA for 10 years and has resided in Warren since 2001. She was an avid crochetier, cook and enjoyed needle point. She was a talented gardener, having brought many plants back from the brink. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Anna is survived by her daughter – Patricia A. Hemmerly and her husband, Ernest of Youngsville; two brothers – Finley “Bud” Beatty, Jr. and his wife, Jackie of Mercer, PA and Chester “Chub” Beatty of Farrell, PA; a sister – Estella Baumgratz of Earle, AR; eight grandchildren – Timothy Pence, Joe Pence, Adam Pence, Dana Pence-Nelson, LuAnn Leonard, Michael Leonard, Janice Leonard-Moore and Charlie Leonard; 17 great grandchildren – Shane Pence, Stephanie Pence-Theuret, Kane Nelson, Riley Nelson, Wade Nelson, Olivia Nelson, Anna Pence, MacKenzie Pence, Madison Pence, Sadè Moore, Jordan Moore, Skylar Moore, Jayden Moore, Jason Moore, Charlize Leonard, Ashlee Leonard and Charles Moore; daughter in law – Susan Leonard of Temecula, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Louis B. Leonard, whom she married July 3, 1941 in Maryland; two sons – Louis E. Leonard and John T. Leonard; and a sister – Dorothy Loreno.

Margery I. Woods, 84

Margery I. Woods, 84, of Warren, PA. died Saturday morning, September 1, 2012 at Warren General Hospital after an illness of the past week. She was born October 28, 1927 in Scio, New York to the late Ernest and Mildred Housenick Rounds. She has resided in Warren for the past 55 ½ years. Margery was employed with the former Struthers Wells Corporation as a secretary and with Kinzua Valley and Warren Manor Nursing Homes as their cook, retiring from there in 1986. She also owned and operated a private day care center for 15 years from her home. She was of the Lutheran Faith. Margery was a member of the North Warren Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, Circle 8 Square Dancing Group and enjoyed crocheting.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David S. Woods, Sr. whom she married March 2, 1957 in Erie, PA., 4 Children – David S. Woods, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ., Mary Sue DeHart of Sarasota, FL., John Woods and wife, Barb of Warren, PA., Margery Woods-Murray and husband, Mike of Sarasota, FL., 6 Grandchildren – Keith Woods, Stephanie Arthurs and husband, Jonathan, Brad Woods and wife, Jodie Ladie, Michael DeHart, Katie Aldrich and husband, Tim, Ryan Woods and wife, Erin. 4 Great Grandchildren – Oakleigh Gilbert, Brooke Lynn Woods, Peyton Arthurs, Kenley Woods, several nieces and nephews. Neil E. Rockwell, 77, of Warren, PA. died peacefully Friday, August 31, 2012 surrounded by his family at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. after a brief illness. He was born August 25, 1935 in Leroy, Bradford County, PA. Neil has resided in Warren for the past 4 years, moving here from Tiona, PA. where he resided or 38 years. He was a veteran with the United State Navy serving from May 1956 until May 1959. He had been employed with the former Warren Concrete as a mixer operator for 15 years, then worked for the former Struthers Wells Corporation for many years and retired in 2000 from the Warren County School District. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and reader. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play and Nascar races. One of his favorite things to do was go 4-wheeling. He is lovingly remembered as man who enjoyed being a loving father, and family man. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, family picnics, traveling and going out to eat.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn J. Bullock Rockwell whom he married December 5, 1958 at Clarendon United Methodist Church, Clarendon, PA., 4 Children – Blaine Rockwell and wife, Brenda of Sheffield, PA., Brian Rockwell and wife, Ellen of Tiona, PA., Brenda Saporito and husband, Don, Barbara Anderson and husband, Bo all of Warren, PA., 1 Brother – Dennis Rockwell and wife, Esther of Sergeant, PA., 9 Grandchildren, 9 Step Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
