Kathryn L. Johnson

Kathryn L. Johnson, 90, of Warren, PA. died Sunday evening, March 3, 2013 at Warren Manor Nursing Home. She was born February 24, 1923 in Warren, PA. to the late Clyde and Alma R. Phillips Daelhousen. She was raised in Tidioute, PA. and was a graduate of Tidioute High School Class of 1941. She then went to Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her registered nurse degree. She was employed with the Warren General Hospital as a registered nurse for 15 years and was a visiting nurse for 5 years. Kathryn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her 3 children – Joanne Vavala, Gary W. Johnson and his wife, Jane all of Warren, PA., Ernest R. Johnson, III and his wife, Suzanne of Lake City, PA., 6 Grandchildren – Jon Vavala (Stacy), Kathleen Gomola (Joe), Tim Johnson (Kathy), Rick Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Laurie Garber, 6 Great Grandchildren, her good friend, Carol Buvoltz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Johnson whom she married October 25, 1941 in Catlesburg, Kentucky, 2 Brothers – Glenn Daelhousen and Richard Daelhousen, 1 Sister – Lucille Caldin.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, Pastor, officiating. Paul Sowles

Paul L. Sowles, 94, formerly of Pleasantville, PA. died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 8:00 P.M. at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, PA. He was born August 6, 1918 in Grand Valley, PA. to the late Bert and Edith Burleigh Sowles. He had resided most of his entire life in Pleasantville, PA. He was a 1936 graduate of Pleasantville High School. He had served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. Paul was employed with the former Universal Cyclops as a Lab Technician. He had a lifelong interest in Aeronautics, Paul spent many years building and flying RC Model Planes. He is survived by 2 sons – Richard Sowles and wife, Kathy of Russell, PA., Michael Sowles and wife, Jean of Pleasantville, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor McCalmont Sowles whom he married June 4, 1941 in Las Vegas, NV., 1 Brother – Arthur Sowles in 1934. Joseph J. Dangelo

Joseph J. Dangelo, 82, of Warren, PA. died Sunday morning, March 3, 2013 at Warren General Hospital after an illness since November 9, 2012. He was born September 21, 1930 in Warren, PA. to the late Alex and Grace LaPlana Dangelo. He was a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1949 graduate of Warren High School. He earned his certificate as a barber from a Barber School in Erie, PA. He was employed as a barber with his father at Dangelo Barber Shop for 5 years and also was employed for 35 years with G.T.E. Sylvania . He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church. Joe was an avid fan of several high school sports and local sporting leagues, especially football, softball and baseball. He was always in attendance of Jammers Baseball games. In his early days, he was an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine V. Babcock Dangelo whom he married May 1, 1950 at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, Warren PA. 3 Children – Daniel Dangelo and wife, Starla of Milton, FL., David Dangelo of Pittsfield, PA., Leslie McGary and husband, Allen of Warren, PA., 1 Brother – Charles “Chuck” Dangelo of Kane, PA., 2 Grandchildren – Douglas Dangelo and wife, Kristine of Pace, FL., Andrea Watson and husband, Damian of Tampa, FL., 1 Great Granddaughter – Kamryn Dangelo of Pace, FL. Barbara J. Dorotics Remich

Barbara J. Dorotics Remich, 68, of Clarendon, PA. died Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013 at North Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wexford, PA. after an illness of the past year. She was born October 9, 1944 in Warren, PA. to the late Joseph and Alexandria F. Walker Dorotics. She had resided most of her life in Clarendon, PA. Barb was a graduate of Warren High School Class of 1962 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in education from Clarion State College Class of 1966 and earned her Master’s Degree in special education from the University of Maryland. She was employed with the Warren County School District working with the Tri-County Unit, teaching at Allegheny Valley and retired from the former Beaty Jr. High School. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church and a former member of the former St. Clara’s R.C. Church, she had served as a C.C. D. Teacher for 10 years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Warren Moose Lodge 109, former Vice-President of the Clarendon Borough Council, a volunteer with the Warren Unit of the American Cancer Society. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who always had her family at the center of her life, especially her grandson, Brandon. She is survived by her daughter – Nicole Clarke and husband, Philip, her grandson – Brandon Clarke all of Moon Twp., PA., 1 Sister – Brenda White and husband, John, 2 Nieces – Abby and Katie White all of Warren, PA. Georgianna Shea

Georgianna Shea, celebrated her 90th birthday Sunday, February 24, 2013, a resident of the Rouse Warren County Home and of Clarendon, PA. died Monday morning, February 25, 2013 after an extended illness. She was born February 24, 1923 in Old Clarendon, PA. where she was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Warren High School Class of 1940. Georgianna was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman 3rd Class in the Bureau of Naval Personnel. She had been employed with the Warren County Courthouse, serving as Chief Clerk for 20 years retiring after 39 years employment on December 30, 1987. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church where she volunteered in the soup kitchen. She was a member of the Warren Antique Study Club, volunteer with the Warren Unit of the American Cancer Society, former member of the former St. Clara’s R.C. Church. She is survived by her brother – John “Toby” Shea and his wife, Susan, 2 Nieces – Jennifer Wortman and husband, David, Kathleen Shea all of Warren, PA., 1 Nephew – Tobin Shea of Los Feliz, CA., 2 Great Nephews – John and Luke Wortman, 3 Great Nieces – Megan, Grace and Isabel Wortman all of Warren, PA. Clarabelle E. Blum

Clarabelle Blum, 81 a resident of the Warren Manor and formally of Sheffield, Pa, died on Thursday February 21, 2013. She was born February 27, 1931 to the late Clarence and Lily Whitehill Brewster. She has resided in Sheffield for the past 25 years. She was a housewife, mother, and retired from Blair Corp. Her favorite past time was playing bingo. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grand children, and the family pet Frit.

She is survived by her children: Rita Hawk of Clarendon, Pa; Rhonda Williams of Sheffield, Pa; and Royce Blum and wife Michelle of Ludlow, Pa, one brother: Ray Brewster and wife Martha of Sheffield, Pa, four grand children: Rodney Littlefield and mate Melinda McLaughlin; Carey Williams and wife Amy; Jessica Asel and husband Matt; Jamie Blum and fiance Janet Hahn, one step grand daughter: Heidi Hedges and husband Keith, five great grand children: Justin Smith; Garret Littlefield; Kourtnee, and Zachary Asel; Leah, and Daphne Williams, one step great grand daughter: Elyse Hedges.

In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her ex-husband Charles Blum, a great grand daughter: Kaylea Littlefield, four brothers: Robert, Merle, Clarence, and Lloyd Brewster, four sisters: Leona Carnahan; Ruby Catlin; Betty Sager; and Flossie Charlesworth.

There will be no visitation or services per Clarabelle’s wishes. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday February 24, 2013, at the Ludlow Fire Hall from 11-2.

Esther Lamar

Esther L. Lamar, 84, resident of the Warren Manor, 682 Pleasant Drive, Warren, PA. formerly of Hazeltine Hollow Road, Youngsville, PA., passed away at the Warren Manor on Sunday, February 16, 2013, our wonderful mother, wife, grandma, great grandma, and aunt, was called to her eternal home. Born April 8, 1928, at home in Corry, PA. She was the daughter of Lionel and Nellie Jamison Sillaway. On September 21, 1946 she married William Willis Lamar in Corry, PA. Esther enjoyed crocheting and traveling in her retirement years before her husband passed away. In her later years she enjoyed writing letters to her many friends and her niece in Missouri. She also enjoyed reading the Amish series of books by Beverly Lewis and doing circle word books at her leisure. Mrs. Lamar is a retiree from the Rouse Home, where she had made many wonderful friends. She had also worked at Roy’s Texas Lunch of Warren and the Way-Side Restaurant in Youngsville, PA. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband till his death on July 11, 2002. Her surviving children Sharon Hilyer and Thomas Lamar were the pride and joy of her life. Also surviving are her grandchildren – Jennifer Hilyer Perkins, Nathan Hilyer, Leoma Lowman, Daisy Lamar Danny Lamar, Jason Dexter, Troy Dexter, and Willy Dexter, 5 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters – Shirley Lamar Griffith, Patricia Lamar Dexter, two grandchildren – Denny Lamar and Baby Dexter, stepbrothers – Harry and Clarence Bromely and her four sisters – Iva Maine, Lena Green, Grace Maine, and Edith Keith. Phyllis Alamenciak Pihlblad, 75, a resident of the Rouse Suites, Youngsville, PA. and formerly of Warren, PA. died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. after an extended illness. She was born May 7, 1937 in Erie, PA. to the late Charles and Helen Clapp Alamenciak. She has resided in Warren since 1959. Phyllis was a 1955 graduate of St. Benedict Academy High School and was a licensed beautician. She had been employed as a supervisor with the former Bell Telephone Co. and office manager of A Safeplace and Market Street Hearing Aid Center. She was a former member of Our Lady of Victory R.C. Church, Frewsburg, N.Y. where she was a catechism teacher and Eucharistic minister and a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, Warren, PA. and their church Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Russell Knitting Club, former member of the Conewango Valley Country Club where she enjoyed golfing. She cooked gourmet style and gave demonstrations for the mothers club and Jamestown Post Journal. She was an avid traveler, boater, fisherman, card player and enjoyed her social life. She had a great love for her cats. She was a strong and devout Catholic. She is survived by her daughters – Robin Susan Anderson and husband, Duane, Wendy Ann Pihlblad Wilkins and husband, Rodney all of Warren, PA., 3 Grandchildren – Rodney William Wilkins and wife, Makala, Mariah Alyssa Allen, Arick Edward Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Pilhlblad who died August 3, 2012 whom she married May 7, 1959 in Erie, PA. Friends may call at the Donald E. Julia Ann Albaugh, 87, a resident of the Warren Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Clarendon, PA. died at her residence Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:40 A.M. She was born October 4, 1925 in Warren, PA. to the late Andrew and Theresa Kopko Kavinski. She had resided in the Warren area for 57 years. She was a housewife, mother and employed for 10 years with the United Refinery Company from 1974 to 1984. She was a long standing member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church and a member of their Altar Rosary Society. She was Vice President of the Patient Council at Warren Manor Nursing Home. Julia was a kind, generous and spiritual women who prayed the rosary daily for those in need and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children – Diane Taylor and husband, Ed of Cornelius, N.C., Nancy Moore and husband, Robert of Cookeville, TN., Connie Olson and husband, Don of Wheaton, IL., 1 Sister – Dorothy Wykoff of Warren, PA., Close Companion and caregiver for several years – Ted (Razzy) Gustafson of Warren, PA., 5 Grandchildren – Chad Gebhardt and wife, Dolores, Jason Smith and wife, Nikki, Ryan Olson, Kaylyn Moore, Lindsay Olson, 7 Great Grandchildren – Jordyn, Grant, Makenzie, Jaxson, Brooke, Jada, Maiya. Ruth Edan Javens Young, 83, a resident of Golden Living-Kinzua died Wednesday morning, February 13, 2013 at Warren General Hospital. She was born January 11, 1930 in Warren, PA. to the late Arthur Morris and Mabel Isabelle Nelson Javens. She had previously lived on Griff Hill Road, Clarendon, PA. She is survived by her children – Sandra Lee Young of Jamestown, N.Y., Jeffrey L. Young and his wife, Sharon of Sheffield, PA., Judith A. Ruby and husband, Darrell of Warren, PA., Steven R. Young and wife, LuAnn of Sheffield, Pa., Roy A. Young of Arizona, Robert S. Young and wife, Tammy of Florida, 1 Brother – Richard Javens of Jamestown, N.Y., 13 Grandchildren 5 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
