Obituary

Edward I. Gern, 99, of Warren, PA, passed away on Wednesday August 5, 2026, 14 days before his 100th birthday.

He was born in Warren, PA, on August 19, 1926, the son of the late Leo and Estella Colvin Gern. Ed was a resident of Warren his entire life. He attended Warren Area High School. During World War II while Ed was in High School the Defense Department recruited him to be a welder for the U. S. Navy. After the war Ed continued his welding craft with Struthers Wells and Hammond Iron Works. He was also a Group Leader at GTE Sylvania for 38 years, retiring in 1989. Ed had a passion for hunting and gardening and was a member of the Warren American Legion.

On November 14, 1945, Ed, married Pauline E. Cable and they spent 47 loving years together before she passed on January 31, 1992.

He is survived by his loving sons, Kerry Gern and wife, Patty of Warren, PA, Jeffery Gern and wife, Kathy of Colleyville, TX, and Steven Gern and wife, Dixie of The Villages FL; daughter Leesa Gern and husband, William Johnson of White Oak, PA. Ed adored his 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, and his wife, Ed was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Gern, one granddaughter, Cara Gern; four brothers, Bill, Donald, Marshall, and George Gern; and two sisters, Frieda Gern Weilacher and Beatrice Gern Wilcox.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA. The Donald E.
