Frank A. Fago, 95, a resident of the Warren Manor Nursing Home
and of Warren, PA., died Monday evening, May 1, 2017 after an
extended illness. He was born March 14, 1922 in Ludlow, PA., to
the late Domenic and Santa Sarcena Fago. He was a former
resident of Crosby and Ludlow, PA., and resided most of his life
in the Warren area. Frank was a 1940 graduate of Ludlow High
School. Frank had served with the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant
during World War II serving with the Medical Dispensary with
the 478th AAA (AW) Battalion. He owned and operated with his
brother, John, the former Pennzoil Service Station at the corner of
Penn & Market Streets. He was also employed as field
representative for Emblem Oil Co., worked for Pennsylvania
Auditor General's office as State Store Auditor from 1961 to 1967.
He was appointed Postmaster of Warren on October 5, 1967 by
President Lyndon B. Johnson, working until his retirement on
May 31, 1985. Frank served as Auditor for Mead Township for
many years. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church,
and former CCD teacher, the church Holy Name Society and the
Warren Council of the Knights of Columbus where he served as a
4th degree member, member of the Warren Kiwanis Club for over
50 years, longtime member and former board member of the
Salvation Army. Frank was active in local politics and ran for
several local offices. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America
and was leader of Holy Redeemer Church Troop, led a group of
Boy Scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch in July 1970. Frank had
served as former Treasurer and board member of the St. Joseph
Cemetery Association. Frank is well known for eating at local
restaurants and leaving behind his artwork on napkins.
He is survived by his sister, Frances L. Fago of Warren, PA.,
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of
36 years, Mary Ann McCloskey Fago, who died November 13,
2008, whom he married July 22, 1972 at Holy Redeemer R.C.
Church, 2 Brothers – Dr. Paul G. Fago and John F. Fago.
Friends may call at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell Street,
Warren, PA., on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 10:15 to 11:00 A.M.
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. James Gutting,
Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the
Ascension in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, where members of the
Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. funeral honor guard and U.S. Army
will perform military honors. Those wishing to place memorials
