Labesky
May 23, 1931 – April 4, 2026
John Labesky Jr., 94, of Sheffield, PA, died on Saturday April 4, 2026, in the Warren Manor, after a brief illness.
He was born in Sheffield, PA, the son of the late John Sr. and Ann Novak Labesky. John was a lifelong Sheffield resident and was a graduate of Sheffield High School. He proudly obtained a BA in history and geography from Edinboro University and then his Masters in counseling from Shippensville University. John joined the United States Army and served from 1952-1954, during the Korean War. John earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania after a 30-year career of assisting, supporting, and counseling those that are unemployed.
John was of the catholic faith and a lifelong member of St. Anthonys RC Church, in Sheffield, where he served on the catering crew. He was a member of the Sheffield VFW, and the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club, where he greatly enjoyed the monthly poker games. John served several years as a Sheffield Township Supervisor as well. After retirement, he devoted his time and energy to grant writing in an effort to improve his community. Through grants he was instrumental in the creation of the Sheffield Food Pantry.
On October 7, 1961, in St. Michaels Church, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Labesky. They spent over 60 loving years together before she passed on October 4, 2022.
John is survived by his 3 children; Julie Bulicz and husband, Tom, and Jeff Labesky and wife, Heidi, all of Sheffield, and Jackie Trubic and husband, Doug of Russell, PA; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, John was preceded in death by six sisters, Katherine Yasurek, Mary Piehuta, Julia Poe, Eva Steffan, Joan Carr, Martha Seleni, and one brother, Donald.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, PA.
