Maria Prodromou Marano

October 7, 1952 - November 5, 2026

A Life Filled with Adventure, Generosity, and Loves

Maria Prodromou Marano, 74, of Warren, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2026, surrounded by her close family. With music playing softly in the background, she spent her final moments holding the hands of her sons. It was a beautiful reflection of the love and connection that defined her life until the very end.

Born October 7, 1952, Maria was a lifelong resident of Warren who lived life with an adventurous soul, an enormous heart, and an unmistakable twinkle in her eye. To know Maria was to love her. She had a rare gift for making everyone she encountered feel welcome, valued, and special. Unpretentious, generous, and always ready for a little fun, she collected friends throughout her life and left an impression on nearly everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Maria was an adventurer at heart. She believed life was meant to be experienced, not simply observed. Her adventures took her to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, through whitewater rapids on rivers across the American West, and along remote backcountry trails in Yellowstone National Park. She embraced new experiences with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a fearless spirit. She was never one to sit on the sidelines when there was a world waiting to be explored.

But as much as Maria loved exploring the world, her greatest joy was found in the people she loved. She was a devoted wife to her longtime husband and best friend, Kim Marano, whom she married on August 27, 1977. Together they built a life and family rooted in love, loyalty, and countless memories.

Maria was a proud and loving mother to her three boys: Andrew and Liz (Feroz) Marano of Pittsburgh, David Marano of Warren, and Jason Lundmark of Warren.

Her three amazing granddaughters, Neenah, Ella, and Drew Marano, held an especially cherished place in her heart. To them, she was simply “Yaya.” Drew often described her as her favorite person in the world. That sentiment says everything about the special bond they shared and the joy Maria brought to her family.

She is also survived by her brother, Panagiotes Fanaritis of Granville, Ohio, her sister, Katherine (Fanaritis) Decker of Warren, Pennsylvania and sister-in-law, Sarah Marano of Warren, Pennsylvania.

Maria had a gift for making ordinary moments extraordinary. She was, without question, one of the best cooks anyone could ever hope to know. Her kitchen was a gathering place, her table was always welcoming, and nobody ever left hungry.

She was a voracious reader, a talented crocheter who made blankets for countless friends, family members, and even beloved pets, and she was a world-class gift giver. Her generosity was never about the gift itself, but about the thought, care, and love behind it. She remembered the little things that mattered to people and found endless ways to make them feel special.

She was generous with her time, her home, her talents, and, most importantly, her heart. She never needed recognition or attention. She was happiest when surrounded by people she loved, sharing a meal, telling a story, laughing, or making someone else’s day a little brighter. She had a way of turning simple gatherings into treasured memories and making everyone feel like they belonged.

Maria was born into a close Greek family and was the daughter of John P. and Magdaline (Prodromou) Fanaritis. Her family and Greek heritage remained an important part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Nick J. Fanaritis.

Perhaps the greatest measure of Maria’s life is not found in the places she traveled or the things she accomplished, but in the countless people who felt loved because she was part of their lives. She had a rare ability to make people feel that they mattered. Friends were family to Maria, and family was everything.

Some of Maria’s final words were that she would miss all of you. Even then, she understood what mattered most: the precious connections we make, the people who fill our lives, and the privilege of being together. It was a fitting sentiment from someone who spent her life making those around her feel loved.

Maria leaves behind a lifetime of friendships, memories, and love that will continue through the many lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
